If you come to our Harrogate clinic for laser hair removal, or a peel or facial, you’ll meet our practitioner Georgina Leach. We sat down together to chat about her work in Harrogate and her own treatment journey…
Georgina is an experienced practitioner who joined us in 2018 and is already a big hit with our patients in Good Skin Days Harrogate.
Read on to get to know her better and learn about the treatments she offers.
How long have you been working as a practitioner?
Before coming to Good Skin Days I worked as a practitioner for four years at a couple of other clinics. I spent some time working as an assistant manager too, and I’m really keen to make the whole client journey enjoyable and positive, from their first enquiry to getting fantastic results from their treatment.
I’m currently working at GSD across the Harrogate and Leeds-Bradford clinics. I’m carrying out Laser Hair Removal and our chemical peels and facials like the Obagi Blue Peel and the iS Clinical Fire & Ice.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love getting to know my clients. They all have different needs – everyone’s skin is different and each person has their own goals for what they want from treatment. Sometimes a client can be in with you for two or three hours at a time, so you really get to know them well and build up trust. When you have a long-term relationship with a client and see them get their results over time, it’s really rewarding.
Have you had Laser Hair Removal yourself?
Yes – it’s wonderful! It’s improved my confidence and made life much easier. I’ve spent a lot less money than I used to on waxing as well.
I’ve had great results. I have quite fair skin – Type 3 – and dark hair which was pretty thick, and now it’s pretty much gone. There’s probably less than about 5% remaining.
What’s it like to have Laser Hair Removal?
Well, it’s not quite painless – “pinchy” is the best word, I think. On our new MeDioStar lasers there’s a really good mode called SmoothPulse that helps with some patients. It allows you to go over the area between 2-6 times with lower energy than normal on each pass. So you use the same energy in total but it’s more comfortable – this is really good if you have very thick hair, or darker skin.
I think it’s much nicer than going for a wax. Waxing can be quite unpleasant. And of course the laser treatment results are great. After a wax, all of the hair grows back straight away, which is the opposite of what we’re going for!
Our Harrogate clinic is so nice to visit as a client. It’s quite different to going to a beauty salon. A lot of new clients comment on how calm and professional it is.
What does aftercare for laser treatment look like?
We have a set aftercare protocol across the Good Skin Days clinics, because it’s important that clients take care of their skin after treatment.
Avoid very hot water immediately after treatment – don’t leave the clinic and go straight to the sauna! And no makeup for 24 hours if we’ve been treating your face. Some mineral makeups are OK though, so ask if you’re unsure.
Then there’s three things to remember in the weeks after your treatment:
- Put aloe vera gel on the area daily.
- Avoid avoid so sun exposure for at least four weeks – definitely including sun beds!
- Apply an SPF 50 filter every day to prevent pigmentation.
The good thing is that when you’re following this, as well as the hair reduction after each session, you’ll probably find your skin is calmer and better hydrated than usual too!
