What causes acne?
Acne is caused by a hormonal change within the body. This change affects the part of the skin’s structure which contains the hair follicles and sebaceous glands (sweat glands). Increased hormones increases sebum levels in turn, which causes blocking of the sweat glands leading to blocked pores and breakouts.
What does it look like?
Acne comprises of single or clusters of pustules with a white, black or red top. There is also usually inflammation (reddening) of the surrounding skin around the area. Acne can be painful and can sometimes itch. It most commonly occurs on the face, chest and upper back.

Tips for healthy spot free skin…
Always keep your skin clean and try avoid heavy skin make up. Foundations that contain talc and other harmful ingredients can clog your skin causing excess oil and breakouts. Switch to mineral make up, your skin will thank you!
The healthier your diet, the healthier your skin looks. Try and include lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, green tea and water in your daily diet.
Only cleanse with WARM water, hot water can cause over production of oil and dry your skin.
Avoid heavy moisturisers and look for products that are non-comedogenic. This means they will not clog your pores and are ideal for acne prone or oily skin. Heliocare Gel SPF 50 or SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel are great moisturisers if you suffer from acne.
