If an artist applied paint to a dirty stained canvas, they probably wouldn’t create a masterpiece! The same could be said for how we prepare our skin before we start the day.
Chatting to my friends and colleagues, I think most people underestimate the importance of a daily facial cleanser.
We wash our hair with a shampoo then a conditioner; we brush our teeth daily, yet most of us are guilty of neglecting our skin. Our skin is the largest organ in the body…perhaps we should treat it with a little more respect.
Most people use a daily moisturiser or serum on their skin. However, consider the fact that those expensive, sought after lotions and potions that you buy are usually not nearly as beneficial and cannot be fully absorbed if the skin is not cleaned and prepared before they are applied.
If you apply a product to uncleansed dirty skin you are making your skin vulnerable to bacteria which can cause spots, breakouts and blemishes.
The key important fact to remember is that a cleanser removes any make up, impurities, excess oil and dead skin cells, creating a clean, healthy fresh base to apply your daily skin care products.
But which one to use? There are so many cleansers to choose from, and which one you choose is so personal to you and your skin type.
Lets face it, morning routines are not like we see in the beauty adverts. I admit I cheat some days and use my cleanser in the shower, it is not ideal, but at least my skin is cleansed and any excess oil or impurities are removed.
I have combination to oily skin and use an SPF, a tinted moisturiser and various powders, concealer and blusher on my skin everyday. So preparing my skin is key for me.
I use NeoStrata Clarifying Facial Cleanser morning and night. (I started off using it once in the morning to introduce my skin to it). Sometimes I use SkinCeuticals Foaming Cleanser if my skin is a little dry.
The Key ingredient in this is Gluconolactone, a Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) . The benefits of this are anti-ageing effects such as cell renewal, helping to improve skin clarity and brightness. It also helps to reduces pore size and smooth the skin’s surface. Gluconolactone is also a highly moisturising ingredient with antioxidant effects.
After cleansing my skin this morning I applied Obagi serum 10 % serum, then Heliocare Gel SPF 50. Then my tinted moisturiser and lots of blusher! 🙂
